Drug Addiction Facts: If You Don't Know These,You Could Be In Trouble

Drug Addiction treatment centers with high rates of success such as Narconon Drug Detox and Rehab Program have long known the following basic facts, but that doesn't mean they are well known to the general population.

With millions of addicts and tens of thousands of drug-related deaths across the nation each year, a little more knowledge could save a person from ruin or even an early demise. In so many words: ignorance, in the case of drug addiction facts, is not bliss.

Here are three key concepts briefly explained that lead to certain trouble—only if they remain unknown.

Drug residues can remain trapped in your body—even years after use.

Though your liver breaks drugs down into substances called "Metabolites" which are rapidly removed from the bloodstream, in many instances, the drugs may never make it out. For example, THC (a chemical found in Marijuana) has strong lipophilic properties—it easily bonds with fatty tissues. It is stored there until some sort of vigorous or even mildly vigorous physical activity (eating, sex, exercise) riles it up—and even then, only a little bit of it dislodges and escapes into the bloodstream. In fact, this is the basis for drug Craving. Ever notice that, like clockwork, a die-hard smoker lights up within minutes of eating a meal?

The body does not discern between 'prescription Medication' and 'raw street drugs'.

An increasing number of rehab centers have witnessed a growth in the number of persons arriving for treatment relating to prescription drug addiction. The person legally took prescribed medication for ADHD as a child or teen and began abusing the medication or other drugs in a similar class, such as Cocaine. According to The National Institute on Drug abuse, during a one month period, four percent of 12 to 17 year olds abused prescription medication. More than 761,000 persons abuse stimulants currently; prescription drugs are the most commonly abused, next to Alcohol. Whatever you call them, these chemical substances are all addictive.

There exists a 'Life Cycle of Addiction'.

According to Gary Smith, CCDC and Executive Director of Narconon Arrowhead, it's a concept "universally applicable to addiction, no matter which hypothesis is used to explain the phenomenon of chemical dependency." The Life Cycle of Addiction "begins with a problem, discomfort or some form of emotional or physical pain a person is experiencing. The person finds this very difficult to deal with," says Smith. "The painkilling effects of drugs or alcohol become a solution to the discomfort." Then, "he inadvertently attaches value to the drug or drink, because it helped him feel better." Simple enough, until you factor in "mental and physical cravings, depression, and guilt associated with the moral degradation and dishonesty that becomes part of an addict's life style," says Smith. But despite all that, "Here is an individual who, like most people in our society, is basically good." There's a lot more to it, but the right recovery program will consider these mechanics of addiction.
