Ecstasy is not a new Drug. Developed in the early
part of
the twentieth century in a German pharmaceutical company,
Then, in the mid 1970s, a researcher picked up the
formula,
made some and testing it on himself, published his findings and
according to
urban legend, named it ecstasy. Users of MDMA are not as easily spotted as people using some other common drugs of abuse. There are, however, typical changes that can be watched for. The first to show up will be behavioral and emotional changes.
New friends who are really “into the party scene”. Late night or all-night parties with this new peer group can become a regular occurrence. These parties called raves were once the most common places to find MDMA use, but now ecstasy is being used in school, at parks or anywhere young people can get together.
Sleeping less on the weekends or whenever the parties are happening, and then catching up during the rest of the week. Groggy and cranky in the mornings, especially the first few after partying.
One of the most pronounced aspects of MDMA is hightened sensitivity to touch, color, taste and even vibration, so strong fragrances or bright colors are popular at clubs or raves. Of course, this is only one indication of partying on “E”, but along with other indicators it can help to determine drug use.
Using ecstasy causes changes in the neuro-chemical
balances of
the brain. These changes along with other factors create the party
attitude and
feelings experienced while on the drug. But these chemical alterations
are slow
to repair and some research says those repairs might take months or even
years.
The day or week after taking ecstasy can be a depressing period of the
user and
have gained the name, “Blue Mondays”. There are even gatherings called
post-rave parties in which those recovering from ecstasy sit and feel
miserable
together. Again, ecstasy use is not the easiest to spot, but these clues will nearly always be present in a person using E, the more signs and symptoms of ecstasy use, the higher the chance that your suspicions are well founded. Ecstasy is an addictive drug, and getting help for someone unable or unwilling- same thing, usually- to quit is of the highest importance. As with any Addiction, the longer you wait to fully handle the problem, the lower the chances of full recovery.
