Helping someone to get off drugs isn’t hard.

We do it everyday.

It’s really very simple. And we don’t use other drugs to do it. This is very, very important. Many other places simply substitute one Drug for another and this can lead to worse situations.Helping someone to get off drugs isn’t hard.

The real task is to make sure that the person doesn’t revert to drugs when they go back into the world, back into the situations that caused them to take drugs in the first place.

The complete Narconon program includes counselling to help the person discover why they started taking drugs in the first place. It also includes education on the harmful and destructive nature of drugs and what drugs really do to a person. The person also learns techniques to help ensure they stay off drugs for good.

Many people do not realise that some of the most common abilities and skills which they use every day are not instinctual, but are learned. Many drug addicts and alcoholics have been found to be deficient in these skills. These are not instinctive abilities. They require training and practice to perfect. Narconon Melbourne has a large, well-equipped training academy on the property with specially trained supervisors to help each student study each course.

Considerable emphasis is placed on life-skills training. Some of the areas addressed are communication skills, study skills and applying ethical principles in everyday life. The result is a person more comfortable with his life and less likely to be overwhelmed by life.

After completing these individual courses, a student is more stable; areas of life which may have seemed baffling and frustrating are no longer a problem; students find that their personal relationships are better and that their production has increased dramatically.

Another area addressed in the courseroom looks at how addicts and alcoholics choose friends, and the type of relationships they tend to form. Addicts tend to surround themselves with people who agree with an unethical lifestyle. This is not a good idea, the people they choose to be around can affect them for better or for worse.

These courses are one of the main reasons that we have such a high success rate.

Definitions of Terms Used

TermDescription
Drug Any substance, other than food, that changes the function or structure of the body or mind when ingested. Drugs essentially are poisons. The degree they are taken determines the effect. A small amount acts as a stimulant. A greater amount acts as a sedative. A larger amount acts as a poison and can kill one dead. This is true of any drug. Each has a different amount at which it gives those results.
Narconon A non-religious, non-profit drug rehabilitation program using technology developed by author L. Ron Hubbard. The Narconon program was originally organized in Arizona State Prison in 1966 by William Benitez, an inmate who was himself a drug addict. He applyed basic principles regarding self awareness and self assurance contained in books by L. Ron Hubbard and, by doing so, completely cured his own addiction to heroin. Mr Benitez then went on to help twenty other inmates do the same. Today there are Narconon centers in 45 countries.
