How is the Narconon program different from other drug treatment programs? |

Treatment for Drug Addiction at one of our centers differs in several ways from the more traditional, usual rehab centers. Many treatment centers dispense replacement drugs or give long-winded 'sermons' designed to change the minds of the users and somehow force the decision to stay off drugs. This puts the addict, once again, under the power of some outside influence. While it may cause the user to abstain, he or she is now dependent on this new element or drug to resist relapsing to the former addiction. In Narconon centers we recognize that there are several barriers the addict must overcome before they can live a drug-free and productive life.
The Narconon drug treatment program addresses each of these areas by, 1) Detoxifying the person's body through a closely supervised process of cleansing the tissues of accumulated toxins so the former addict is no longer carrying his 'triggers' around with him. 2) Giving heavy emphasis to life-skills training. Through a series of courses and practical exercises that give needed experience in using these skills, it is possible to gain the needed tools to living in today's world. 3) The subjects of personal honesty and integrity, and personal responsibility are the final stage of the former drug user's return to a complete individual. While he or she may know that personal responsibility is important, it could be something that isn't fully understood. Through courses and very hands-on exercises aimed at just these areas, we bring the person finally to the point of being able to face life with their head up and a clean heart. No more guilt, regret or hiding. Drug rehabilitation was never simply a matter of "taking someone off drugs". At the Narconon program we help people rebuild, to become who they can be and be truly rehabilitated.
